Abstract:

Prof. Xin-Cheng Xie got his Doctoral degree at the University of Maryland in the United States in 1988. From 1988 to 1991, he worked as a postdoc researcher at University of Washington and University of Maryland. He joined Oklahome State University as a faculty in 1991, and was promoted to Regents Professor of the University in 2004. In 2010, he was appointed as Founding Director and Chair Professor of International Center for Quantum Materials, at Peking University. In 2011, he became the dean of School of Physics, Peking University. He has made great contributions to the bridging of fundamental condensed matter theories to experimental measurements. He is worldwide renown for various seminar works in quantum Hall effects, spin transport, and low-dimensional quantum materials. A variety of his theoretical proposals have been confirmed by experiments and have far-reaching consequences in terms of both theoretical modeling of exotic quantum phenomena and also potential applications.
